The Chaplet of the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit Gifts

It is sad to realize, and indeed only too true, that the Holy Spirit does not mean much in the spiritual life of most Christians. Those who are genuinely devoted to Him are rather scarce. That is, undoubtedly, a wide, a very wide gap in our Christian life. We are thereby deficient in light and sanctity. Let us react! It is never too late!... Here is a practical suggestion as to a simple, yet beautiful way of honouring the Holy Spirit and drawing His sevenfold Gifts upon us.

Pray This Chaplet:

-Very often, even every day
-Especially on Sundays
-When an important decision is to be made, grave moments or when spiritual help is required
-Every day during recollections or retreats
-In preparation of the Feast of Pentecost

1. Pray The Apostles Creed:
I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

2. Pray the Gloria:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

3. Pray the Our Father:
Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy Will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the Evil One.
Amen.

4. Pray: Father, father, send us the promised Counselor through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

5&6: On the first bead of each set of 7, you say this full prayer: Come Holy Spirit, Fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love! Send forth Thy Spirit and they shall be created. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth. O God, who instructed the hearts of Thy faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us by the same Spirit to be truly wise and evermore to rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.On each of the 7 beads in the set you only say this part: Come Holy Spirit, Fill the hearts of Thy faithful and kindle in them the fire of Thy love!

7. Pray the Gloria at the end of each set:
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever.
Amen.

8. Before each set, you announce one of the following Mysteries:

I. Let us honour the Holy Ghost and adore Him who is Love Substantial, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and uniting Them in an infinite and eternal charity.

II. Let us honour the Holy Ghost and adore Him who is Love Substantial, proceeding from the Father and the Son, and uniting Them in an infinite and eternal charity.

III. Let us honour the operation of the Holy Ghost and adore Him as He fecundates the Virgin Mary in the Incarnation of the Word, the Son of God by His Divine nature, and the Son of the Virgin by the flesh.

IV. Let us honour the operation of the Holy Ghost and adore Him giving birth to the Church on the glorious day of Pentecost in the Cenacle.

V. Let us honour the operation of the Holy Ghost and adore Him dwelling in the Church and assisting her faithfully according to the Divine promise, even to the consumation of the world.

VI. Let us honour the wonderful operation of the Holy Ghost creating within the Church that other Christ, the Priest, and conferring the plentitude of the Priesthood on the Bishops.

VII. Let us honour the operation of the Holy Ghost and adore Him in the heroic virtue of the saints in the Church, that hidden and marvelous work of the "Adorable Sanctifier".

Concluding Prayers:

1. Hail, holy Queen, Mother of mercy, hail, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve: to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this vale of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus, O merciful, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!
Amen.

2. Holy Spirit, Divine Consoler, I adore You as my true God, with God the Father and God the Son. I adore You and unite myself to the adoration You receive from the angels and saints. I give You my heart and I offer my ardent thanksgiving for all the grace which You never cease to bestow on me. O Giver of all supernatural gifts, who filled the soul of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, with such immense favors, I beg You to visit me with Your grace and Your love and to grant me the gift of holy fear, so that it may act on me as a check to prevent me from falling back into my past sins, for which I beg pardon. Grant me the gift of piety, so that I may serve You for the future with increased fervor, follow with more promptness Your holy inspirations, and observe your divine precepts with greater fidelity. Grant me the gift of knowledge, so that I may know the things of God and, enlightened by Your holy teaching, may walk, without deviation, in the path of eternal salvation. Grant me the gift of fortitude, so that I may overcome courageously all the assaults of the devil, and all the dangers of this world which threaten the salvation of my soul. Grant me the gift of counsel, so that I may choose what is more conducive to my spiritual advancement and may discover the wiles and snares of the tempter. Grant me the gift of understanding, so that I may apprehend the divine mysteries and by contemplation of heavenly things detach my thoughts and affections from the vain things of this miserable world. Grant me the gift of wisdom, so that I may rightly direct all my actions, referring them to God as my last end; so that, having loved Him and served Him in this life, I may have the happiness of possessing Him eternally in the next.
Amen.
